College phenom running back Tyler Bentley is the ultimate success story. He is also the ultimate fall from grace story when a freak play occurs, leaving his knee shattered. Now, leaning on the help of his one-time teacher Shane Laszlo, Tyler must take his battle from the gridiron to the courtroom. This is the first book I have read by this author. Excellent story and well written. The reason I gave it 3 stars was because of many typographical errors, misspelled words, and very poor proof reading. The story involved a great deal of medical terminology. If I did not have a medical background, I doubt I could have understood the story. Had it not been for this, I would have rated the book 5 stars. I will try one more book by this author, hopefully will not find as many errors.

Catastrophic Dustin Stevens 9781492333593 Books Reviews

I’m not a sports fan, far from it, but I was intrigued by the premise and I wasn’t disappointed. The backstory on the defendants is a bit thin. We never really explore who they are, what is so important that they have to hide. Perhaps what shows on the surface is their entire substance Extreme greed coupled with an extreme disregard for anyone but themselves. Check it out!
A wonderful mystery exposing the business tactics of big pharma, University hospitals, and greed. The characters are real and multi dimensional. This is a fast-paced story that captures your interest from page one. It is a great example of the well-written storytelling of Dustin Stevens. There is definitely possibilities of future stories featuring the same leading characters found in Catastrophic! This author's novels are recommended for anyone who enjoys fast-paced thrillers
I found this book to be well-written with well developed characters. The story line is believable and fairly fast-paced. The young lawyer, Shane Lazlo, takes on a malpractice case after football star Tyler Bentley is injured during a game and shysters talk him into having a knee replacement. This replacement is untested, so in essence Tyler is a guinea pig. The replacement disintegrates which makes an amputation of Tyler's leg imperative. The defendants ("bad guys") are choir boys compared to Ute Carbone, the "enforcer." I found the court descriptions plausible and the ending was expected but had a twist or two. I noted very few misspelled words, which is refreshing in e-books. I think Dustin Stevens, author, has a great future!
If I could give more stars I would. I loved this story. Totally engaging from beginning to end. Impossible to put down. The courtroom drama and legal aspects compared favorably with 'The Rainman' of John Grisham and the real-life story of Erin Brockovich's battle for justice against a big corporation.
Having had a total knee and hip replacement, I could certainly empathize with Tyler.
I prefer Stevens' novels, like this one, where the the story is character driven and the amount of physical violence is toned down.
Highly recommended.
Although the premise of the book was excellent, and the first several chapters were well written and intriguing, as I read on, I discovered incorrectly used words that any editor should have found and corrected. I was willing to dismiss those, but then the author stopped trying to find new ways of describing the characters facial expressions ( they smirk a lot, even in situations where smirking is inappropriate), their actions and even the scenes. I felt like I was proofreading a high school student's rough draft. Then i realized that the author had made virtually no effort to research the content of his book, and that we were being treated to a skimming of the surface of what could have been an excellent courtroom drama. In the end, I only survived two-thirds of the book before the poor writing became too much of a distraction. And I'm a math teacher! I can't imagine how far i'd have read if I was an English teacher!
Several reviews commented about the bad editing, but I thought the story could be interesting so I got it anyway. Bad move. Not only were the sloppy edits a terrible annoyance, but the story itself was not much better than a porly rsearched high school project. Even the story might be sophomoric, however, there is simply no excuse for the careless editing. That is an insult to readers; a direct slight saying, we don't think you'll notice it and we dont want to take the time or trouble to produce a good product. There are far too many other similar stories readers can enjoy without being insulted.
This is a GREAT story - equal to Grisham. Reading it was ruined for me though by so many errors. With a professional edit this could be one of the great thrillers. I want to read more of Dustin's work but fear the challenge of reading through errors that slow down the pace and the enjoyment. Please, please, please get great editing and then wait to become a big name on the best seller lists alongside Grisham and Patterson. Thanks for the story.
